Heinze 57 (days)

Do not adjust your monitor, that is not a Blue Jackets jersey leading this post. Unfortunately there is little available photo documentation of Steve Heinze’s short stint with the Blue Jackets during their inaugural season.

Steve Heinze was an original Blue Jacket who’s playing career in Columbus lasted a mere 65 games before a trade to the Buffalo Sabres (pictured above). In 65 games with Columbus, Steve Heinze posted 22-20-42, going on to post a total of 27-27-54 in the 2000-2001 season, a career best for Heinze. During his time with the Blue Jackets, Heinze was victimized by the class act that is Brad May. May was penalized with a 20 game suspension for a slash to the head of Steve Heinze.

Side note: Brad May has been arrested for assault of a police officer (2002), was the player on the Vancouver Canucks that put the bounty on the head of Steve Moore that resulted in the Bertuzzi incident. May was also involved in the concussion issues faced by former Wild D-man, Kim Johnsson.

Enough of the history lesson.

Cannonfest is Sunday.

Be there. Eat lots of wings. Drink lots of booze. Talk hockey. Get home safely.

Sounds like a great Sunday afternoon to me.

John Moore finally updated his CBJ blog and talks about some of the players in town working out. Glad he got around to that finally. It’s okay for me to criticize because I update only slightly more frequently than him this summer.

Puck the Media takes a look at the potential future of the NHL on television. Steve also gives his suggestion on what could be an ideal situation for the National Hockey League.’s “30 in 30” takes a look at your Columbus Blue Jackets. Lots of good info and some highlights from the 2009-10 season.

Go Jackets.
