All-American Effort – JACKETS WIN

On election night in America the Blue Jackets, a group of mostly non-Americans, put forth an effort that any full-time red, white and blue bleeding citizen (especially a CBJ Fan) can appreciate.

From top line to bottom line, front to back, left to right, this was a complete effort for the CBJ. Mathieu Garon was huge early and late and saved the day a couple of times for the Jackets who were lackadaisical in the early going.

The 3 goals scored by the Jackets were a thing of beauty.

Rick Nash showed why he is one of the most feared forwards in the NHL. His wrist shot that beat Carey Price was a jaw-dropping spectacle. Such an impressive play by Jake Voracek making the pass to Nash in close quarters, and Nash left no doubt that the shot would be going in.

Derick Brassard connected for the Jackets on the power play… yes I’m still kinda shocked to have seen a power play goal. Jake Voracek again was involved as he drove hard for the net and deked maybe 40 times before making a perfect pass to Brass for the one-timer.

The scoring was completed during the 3rd period as Jared Boll led an odd-man rush with Kyle Wilson and Wilson fired it past Price.

A few random thoughts:

  • Who woulda thought Jared Boll could do something helpful and productive for the team that didn’t involved losing a fight?
  • Can’t say enough about the entire rosters contributions.
  • Are these the real Jackets? I think they are, but remember this is still a young team and inconsistency is common with youth.
  • Mathieu Garon will from this point forward be referred to as “Matty Ice” (yes I know this nickname is already in use by the Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan)

A rare visit to Columbus by the most storied franchise in all professional sports, the Montreal Canadiens.

7:00pm EST, Nationwide Arena

NO LOCAL Television.

Those who say blame Versus for no TV here should explain to me why there was a television broadcast of last Monday night’s Philadelphia vs. Columbus game (which fell during the VS Exclusivity window).

Not much of a preview tonight, because it’s already after 3pm and I have a 90 minute drive waiting for me.

Mathieu Garon gets the start tonight, the Jackets have yet to lose 2-in-a-row this season, and Montreal is going for their 5th consecutive road win.

The top lines need to get going, the defense needs to be consistent which will hopefully be aided by the expected return of Jan Hejda.

I will get back to writing game recaps after tonight’s match-up.

In other news…

Derick Brassard made some silly comments to a radio station CKAC Sports

Go Jackets.
