Game 61 – NASHVILLE PREDATORS

The streaking Blue Jackets, winners of 5 of the last 6 games, travel to the slumping Predators, losers of 4 straight, and winning only 1 in their last 6, for a place the Jackets seldom find success.

The 5 game road trip to make or break the season begins this afternoon. Five games, Nashville, Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, St. Louis. Finding a way to claim any points today in Nashville would get the road trip going in the best way possible.

The Preds are a banged up and probably pretty pissed off. The Jackets are playing excellent hockey, and even when they’re not, they’ve made up for it pretty easily.

Expect the same line-up as Friday’s huge win over Phoenix, newly claimed Craig Rivet will not make his debut today.

An exciting 24 hours awaits with today’s game and the NHL Trade Deadline coming tomorrow afternoon at 3:00pm EST.

Who to root for today:

CBJ over Preds

Blues over Flames

Avs over Ducks

Coyotes over Blackhawks

Again, overtime is ALWAYS bad and some games have no real “winner” when it comes to “rooting for” versus “needing someone to win”.

Go Jackets.

Game 59 – NASHVILLE PREDATORS

With only 3 games remaining before the NHL Trade Deadline, and 2 games with the Nashville Predators looming, the pressure on the team, coaching staff, and front office comes to a head with the final 3 games in February.

In the previous 3 meetings this season the Blue Jackets have won in shutout fashion, lost in a shootout, and lost handily at the hands of Trotz’s Tots. The two games the Jackets have gained points in came in the friendly confines of Nationwide, and the listless loss came in Nashville (no surprise there). With 2 games remaining after tonight, one against the ‘Yotes, and another in Nashville, the necessity of these points cannot be overstated.

In cased you missed it yesterday, the one game that could help the Blue Jackets achieve their “race for 8th” went the wrong way… of course. The Blues lost to the Blackhawks last night 5-3 making last Friday’s win in Chicago by the CBJ that much more important.

Tonight there awaits a slew of games that will impact the Jackets in the standings:

CBJ over Preds

Oilers over Wild

Devils over Stars

Flyers over Coyotes

Red Wings over Sharks

Blues over Avs

Also going down yesterday was a pretty big trade between the Penguins and Stars. The Stars sent winger James Neal and d-man Matt Niskanen to Pittsburgh for up-and-coming d-man Alex Goligoski. One might say Pittsburgh won this trade… by a lot.

Tonight should be a great test of the Jackets. The best news for the Jackets is that Preds defenseman, Ryan Suter, is OUT for tonight’s game. But that doesn’t change the fact that the Jackets just plain suck more often than not against the Predators.

Tonight it gets real. If the last 8+ games weren’t enough to fire you up, then tonight ought to do the trick.

Go Jackets.

Game 39 – NASHVILLE PREDATORS

The Blue Jackets come to their toughest test in weeks, a visit to the Music City and the Nashville Predators.

After roaring out of 2010 on a 3-game win streak, will the Jackets be able to carry that momentum into their first game of 2011? It would be oh-so-sweet if the CBJ could find a way to win tonight in Nashville, something that hasn’t been done in seemingly forever.

Simply enough, if the Jackets wither in the face of the Predators energy and forecheck tonight, they don’t have much chance to win.

Portzline points out the absence of Nashville Forward’s Martin Erat and Steve Sullivan could/should be a boost for the Jackets, as both are known “Jackets Killers”.

No clue who’s in net, I’ll go ahead and guess Mason… but it will probably be Garon.

Huge road trip this week. Coming home with 5 points in 4 games would make me pretty happy.

Go Jackets.

Game 23 – NASHVILLE PREDATORS

The Jackets look to get back on the winning track and none-other than arch-rival, Nashville comes strolling into town.

The Preds are coming into Columbus fresh off of a shutout victory last night over the streaking Phoenix Coyotes. The Jackets have hit a bit of a bump in the road losing two straight for the first time this season, but what remains to be seen is how this team responds to back-to-back losses to arguably the best team in the NHL.

I was able to get lower bowl tickets for tonight so it will be a different perspective that I haven’t seen for months, plus it will be really nice to see what the Jersey’s look like in action from such close proximity.

It is too much to call tonight a must-win, but it’s pretty darn close. Steve Mason needs to stay focused, and the defensive zone coverage needs to improve… thankfully Nashville’s top 6 doesn’t exactly go toe-to-toe with Detroit’s.

Go Jackets.

Game 19 – NASHVILLE PREDATORS

The Blue Jackets return home from the West Coast to the “friendly” confines of Nationwide Arena where the always-pain-in-the-butt Predators await.

After a shocking sweep of California, the Blue Jackets look to keep the momentum going against a perennial problem team. The Jackets haven’t fared well against the Preds… pretty much ever. But you know you what, as the trip just showed many, this team is doing some surprising things. There is no reason to expect anything less than a competitive, hard-fought game between the Jackets and whoever they are taking on.

Puck-rakers reported that both David Legwand and Ryan Suter are out of the line up tonight for the Preds, which could ensure that this week’s #1 Star in the NHL, Rick Nash, continues his torrid pace of goal scoring.

Regardless of who’s in, and who’s out, tonight’s first match-up between Central Division rivals should be a dandy.

Go Jackets.
